Great Teachers of India

Our country celebrates "Teacher's Day" on 5 September every year to honor the teachers-fraternity. Today, teachers and schools are hell-bent on minting money. I think this is not the right moment to discuss about them. Here, I would like to dedicate the blog to all my friends who are in the mission of education since beginning.

At the same time I also would like to thank to the people who have got into this mission by chance and by mistake.

Thus, I dare to categorize teachers by three categories i.e.
Teachers
by chance,
by choice and
by mistake;

With the help of this write-up, I would like to draw your attention towards some of the teachers of our country who have really proved to be Good-Samaritan and left their mark in the field of education.

Let’s take a look at their contribution as a teacher/mentor

Real life Ranchoo from the movie titled “three Idiots”
He is a boon for the people of 42 Mouza imparting education to the local at village Baral in Odisa. He teaches science, technology and other innovation to the kids for free. He set up the International Public School for Rural Innovation, (IPSRI) the school with difference.
Among the plethora of innovation,
  • He was part of a team of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology that construct satellite to monitor Heera Khand Dam
  • He was also joining a team of robot design that climb the electric poles to fix basic problems. It was wrought with danger for human.

This contribution brought him Youth Icon Award in 2018.

When he was asked about his IPSRI he said that he had not wanted kids in village to move out of it to get quality education that he could bring in the village itself.
The Objective of this school is to develop innovative students who will be skilled enough to solve real-life problems through science, technology and innovation. He said-“Our lessons are more practical. The teaching methodology is quite innovative which makes students learn complex subjects in a simpler and creative way.” Later he added – “Every child is different and capable of doing something different. We have a set of experiments which help a child understand his capabilities in a particular field” Don’t you think he is Ranchoo of Odisa. He teaches in different way exactly the way Ranchoo in Three Idiots does.

who deviated from the prescribed lesson plan. Realizing that most of India’s hundreds of millions of schoolchildren were being educated in the same inflexible manner, she founded The RiversideSchool in Ahmedabad in 2001, aiming to provide an alternative model which focuses on “quality of learning,” “student well being,” and “empathy in education.” These may seem like obvious ideals to some, but in certain parts of India it was a game-changing move.

In 2009, Sethi expanded on the principles practiced at Riverside to found the “Design for Change” movement with the goal of getting children to drive change in their communities by unleashing what she calls their “I can superpower.” The movement to encourage youth volunteerism, which has since spread to more than 300,000 children in 35 countries, is based on a simple but revolutionary model: It asks kids to feel any problem that bothers them, imagine a way to make it better, do an act of change, and share their story of change with the world.

77 years old teacher helped to realized dreams of underprivileged children.
Beula Gabriel
She established St. Joseph’s in Hyderabad. However, her family had previously founded St. Andrew’s School in 1985 which she opted out for a reason. She later disclosed it which goes as follows;
She did not want to run schools like the many we see today that charge hefty amount as fee which is affordable only the rich and well-to-do families. She started teaching students of underprivileged section. Most of her students of these families are now doctors, engineers, scientists and working with Multi Nationals Companies. She did not charge anything for that.
